Past Continuous Tense

Past Continuous Tense: Past Continuous Tense is used in the following situations:

I.    Interrupted Action: Past Continuous is used to indicate a longer action in the past, interrupted by a shorter action. The shorter action is usually in the Simple Past tense.

     Example:

I was cooking when you called.

II.   Parallel actions: Past continuous is used to indicate that two actions were happening at the same time in the past i.e. the actions were parallel.
